The hate rhetoric that sprang from Donald Trump during and post this last election cycle has shaken me to my core (it ought to have shaken all people of conscience and morals) and continues to leave me feeling deeply angry and afraid, but more importantly, driven by the more powerful forces of love and empathy, it has inspired me to resolve to resist any and all acts of injustice he and his administration seek to enact and express during the next 4 years.

One of the many targets of Trump and his hate rhetoric were and are women the world over. In response, those very women (you can read about several of the multi diverse women organizers at womensmarch.com/team) whom Trump regularly degraded and insulted, mobilized people (an estimated 50k in Philadelphia alone) of all genders to take to the streets in the United States and around the world (between 3.6 and 4.5 million in the U.S. alone), the day after the inauguration, in a historically massive modern day civil rights march---The Women's March. This protest march was in response to the vile sexism, xenophobia, and racism that Trump and many (of course not all) of his supporters espouses, both in words and actions.

This needs to be merely the first step in what ought to be a sustained engagement both in our own personal lives and at all levels of our government that control meaningful policies over the next 4 years and beyond, to show the world that the 21st century has no room for hate ideology and behavior. We need to remind America that we are not only a nation ruled by the "government of the people, by the people, and for the people", but that we are also a nation that invites ALL people (including immigrants and refugees as well as the native people of America, whom our country has gravely wronged since its inception) to share in the equal and just rights promised by all free nations.

I joined the Women's March and Rally in my city of Philadelphia today, not as a documentarian this time, but as a participant in solidarity with all women and other marginalized people of our earth.
